Privacy policy

Effective October 28, 2026. Applies to The Forking Chronicles app and this website.

Spectrum App Design ("we", "us") makes The Forking Chronicles. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app uses, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what we need to give you your account and save your reading progress, and we never sell your information.

Information we collect

Your account

To use the app you sign in with Google or with an email address and password. We receive your email address and a unique account ID. If you sign in with Google, we may also receive the basic profile details Google shares at sign-in, such as your name and profile picture. We never see your Google password, and email passwords are stored only in encrypted (hashed) form by our sign-in provider.

Your reading activity

So you can pick up where you left off on any device, we save:

  • the books on your shelf and where you are in each one
  • story choices and items you've picked up in a story
  • your bookmarks
  • endings you've unlocked and reading stats such as stories finished and choices made
  • whether your account has an active subscription and any free previews remaining

Settings on your device

Preferences such as page-turn sound, volume, auto-scroll and how your library is sorted are stored only on your phone. They aren't sent to us.

Subscriptions and payments

The monthly subscription and 7-day free trial are sold and billed by Google Play. Google handles your payment details; we never receive your card number or billing address. Google tells the app whether your subscription is active so we can unlock the library.

What we don't collect

The app doesn't use advertising, ad tracking or third-party analytics. It doesn't access your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.

How we use it

  • to create and secure your account and sign you in
  • to save and sync your reading progress, bookmarks and endings
  • to check whether you have access to subscriber content
  • to answer you when you contact us for support
  • to keep the app working, fix problems and prevent misuse

Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase provides account sign-in and stores your account and reading data.
  • Google provides Google sign-in and handles subscriptions and payments through Google Play.

These providers may store data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and reading data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your account and reading data within 30 days, except where we must keep something for legal reasons. Google keeps its own purchase records under its own policies.

Your choices and rights

  • Access or correction: email us and we'll tell you what we hold about you or fix anything that's wrong.
  • Deletion: you can ask us to delete your account and data at any time. See how to delete your account.
  • Subscription: you can cancel at any time in Google Play. Cancelling doesn't delete your account.

We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us to use them.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections, and access to stored data is restricted to your own account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Children

The Forking Chronicles isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or contact forms. Our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security and to keep the site running. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
